The flower bed needs sufficient amount of fertilizer to ensure the health of your plants. Once you see that the green leaves are starting to grow, you have to supply the plants with nitrogen. To help the plants bloom and to increase the production of bulbs, you have to fertilize these with phosphorous and potassium. As much as possible, avoid lilies that have yellowish leaves, wilted foliages, brownish leaf margins, and those that bear spots and blotches. Check if the plant doesn t have torn leaves or have been polished with a chemical to make it temporarily shine. In buying lilies in pots or containers, try to look for those that have new flowers and leaf buds because they are usually of high quality. They can bloom for a long season and they like cool places. They are unscented. The most popular cut flowers and garden perennials, the Oriental lilies have large flowers in white, pink and reds with a very intense fragrance. These are the wild types that breeders use to create some of the more beautiful hybrids of today. Dwarf lilies are an excellent choice for pot gardening. They can make such beautiful accents to your rooms. Potting Potted lilies can be as healthy as those that are grown under natural conditions in the ground or gardens. Potting the lilies can start around late March all the way to the first week of May. These are found mostly in Europe, India, southern Canada, the United States, the Philippines, and in northern parts of the Mediterranean. Variety The major two types of lilies are the Oriental and the Asiatic varieties. Orientals bloom during late summer and they give off strong, sweet scents. They usually have large fragrant blossoms.
