This is the container that will be used when the beer will be fermented. For many enthusiasts, this is also called as the fermentor. Expect to see carboys in many sizes, and for starters you may want to start with the 5-gallon carboy. The stopper. This is an important storage implement and this should not be left out in your shopping list. I also have no qualms about recommending this wonderful hobby; if you need some convincing, here are several good reasons to take up home brewing. It's a Rewarding Hobby Being able to brew your own type of beer with its own unique flavors can give a home brewer a great sense of fulfillment. The act of brewing your own beer also gives you that mad scientist fulfillment (or at least for me), not to mention the satisfaction that you feel every time your beer-guzzling friends rave about your concoction. These grains are the choice of advanced brewers if they feel the need to add some color, spice and taste to the alcoholic drink. Now there are five major types of these grains. Know them before using them. The black malt. As the name implies, the grains border on the dark color. The color can be linked to the high roasting temperature used in processing these specialty grains. Years ago, the materials involved in home brewing are a can of Blue Ribbon malt extract, a 10 gallon ceramic crock, and a pile of Fleischmann's bread yeast. Now, home brewers can purchase Coopers Beers kits, which are relatively cheaper and more unwieldy than earlier beer home brewing kits. Due to these significant changes, home brewers are now producing beers with better quality. When you use a higher temperature during this stage of home brewing, there will be a reduced effect of the beta amylase and as such there will be larger amounts of sugar in your beers. And finally; When you want to have a full bodied home brew, the recommendation by many is to use the low attenuation yeast strain. This valve should allow the escape of gas but should not allow the entry of microbes and dust that could contaminate the solution. Funnel If you're using a carboy (a glass bottle that holds 5 to 6 liters of liquid), you should use a funnel. This makes it easier to transfer liquid from the brew kettle into the carboy.
