We have discussed here the most common types of sicknesses of iguana that demand prompt vet care and will require suitable medication so that you do not lose your pet. Fibrous Osteodystrophy: Metabolic bone diseases are very common with iguanas. In fibrous osteodystrophy their bones become weak and may fracture also. They have a wide mouth and sharp teeth, short nostrils and exterior ear drums. Iguanas have a third eye also at top of head, which watches the movements over the head. Red Sided Skink iguanas also have a third eye. This variety of iguana is mostly found in rocky plains of Eastern and Southern Africa. You should give them plenty of water to drink. They may not try to drink the water themselves. You have to devise some means for that. You can sprinkle some water in their food. This way they may take water with their food. You have to train your pets to drink water. Put some treat for them in the water so that they drink water with this food. Red iguanas should be furnished with a shallow container for their food and water. These containers should be regularly cleaned and disinfected to avert any infection. As iguanas like to climb up the branches of trees, you can place some branches, twigs, barks, rocks and broad limbs and similar material for them. You have to maintain the temperature in their enclosures. They need constant warmth for their body as they are cold blooded creature. You will have to install lamps or heaters to keep them warm in cold areas. Pet and Tamed iguana. You cannot tame your pet iguana so easily. You have to take their proper care and interact with them so that they feel comfortable and get acquainted with you and your family members. They eat leaves, seeds, flowers and fruits. Their diet changes as the seasons change. Sometimes they eat insects, animal food, land crabs and carrions. Small animals and insects are pet food for young Rhinoceros Iguanas. The bush or the plant that they select for their food is precious to them. They will guard it from the other species of iguanas.
