You can follow a diet plan for them in consultation with an expert. The iguanas normally eat plants, vegetables and fruits. They should not be fed food containing animal protein. They may relish pizza and all junk food, but that is not good for their health. Give them a limited quantity of vegetables. You should not use mud, soil, sand and bark as these will breed pest in them and cause damage to iguanas. You should clean the dwelling of iguana and sterilize it twice every week. You can place a few pieces of rocks, drift woods, broad limbs, branches etc. for climbing of iguanas. Water: Generally, iguanas quench their thirst for water by the vegetation consumed from plants and the food they take. You have to take their proper care and interact with them so that they feel comfortable and get acquainted with you and your family members. A tamed pet iguana will soon move freely in your house and will not eat anything by just getting excited. You can take them out for outdoor activities also. Once they are habitual with you and they become friendly, you can play with them, hold, caress or cuddle them. Correct Food: Iguanas are herbivores and mostly feed on leaves, vegetables and fruits. Their diet should be balanced and major part of it should comprise leafy vegetables like mustard greens, kale, escarole, spinach, etc. They should also be fed with some amount of food rich in proteins. In addition, they can be fed green peppers, frozen mixed vegetable, squash, green beans and fruits such as apple, banana and mangoes. The iguanas may die, if the condition is serious. The critical signs of this disease are swollen jowl, torpidity, soft face and lower jaw like rubber, problem in eating and swelling of limbs. Most of the times, limbs and spine gets fractured. The hind legs are paralyzed as a consequence of deficiency of vitamin B1 in food. Place some artificial plants and branches to make the proper environment for them like they have in trees. They may like to climb up the branches or hang over them. If the iguana is small, make a proper cage without any holes in, so that they cannot escape out of it. When the iguana grows up, shift them to a larger place or expand the area of their dwelling.
